Origin and history

The medieval house of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon is a historical monument whose two rooms on the floor preserve medieval frescoes organized in superimposed registers. In the first room, a frieze adorned with red ochre rinceaux dominates a historic setting, including a horseman's scene terrorizing an animal in a landscape. The lower parts repeat patterns of hanging, while remains (female face, bull, pleated fabric) remain on the other walls. The second piece adopts a similar arrangement, with decorative records.

The rear body of the house is home to the only two old stone-lined windows, while those of the façade were remodeled between the 15th and 16th centuries. These architectural elements, combined with frescoes, testify to the artistic and historical importance of the building. The house has been partially protected since 2001, with an inscription covering its facades, roofs and entire interior.

Located at 2 rue Montée-du-Fort and 1 rue du Bourguet, this house illustrates the medieval heritage of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, a commune of Gard en Occitanie. Its state of conservation, though partial, offers an overview of the decorative and architectural techniques of the time. The location, noted as fair (5/10), allows a visit in a historical setting marked by the proximity of Avignon and its papal heritage.
