Origin and history

The house of Belles-Forêts is an old farm built in 1754, as attested the date engraved on the lintel of the house door. This building, typical of 18th century rural architecture in Lorraine, reflects the construction techniques of the period, with local materials and a functional organization adapted to agricultural needs.

In the 19th century, the gable walls of the house were rebuilt in masonry, partially changing its original appearance. This transformation illustrates the architectural changes and the need to consolidate rural buildings over the centuries. Despite these changes, the structure retains characteristic elements of its initial construction period.

Listed in the Historical Monuments by order of 14 December 1992, the house is now owned by the commune of Belles-Forêts. Its ranking reflects its heritage importance, both for its history and for its role in the local architectural landscape. The location, although specified as being at the address rue de l'Église or 80 Rue du Rehberg, remains approximate according to the available sources, with a cartographic accuracy deemed fair.

This type of farm, common in Lorraine in the 18th century, was at the heart of the economic and social life of the villages. Agricultural buildings served not only as housing but also as a place for storing and processing crops, playing a central role in community organisation and local trade.
