Origin and history

This house, located in Loudrefing in the Great East, dates from the 1st quarter of the 18th century and is distinguished by an unusual architecture for the region. Its left gable has a second farm in an overflowing and essential wood section, a particularity whose function remains unknown. The building combines a first level masonry and wood-paned high parts, with a bread oven covered in appentis, reflecting the local constructive techniques of the era.

The farm was built in 1704, as attests to the date engraved on the left front horn post. Although listed as Monument Historique by order of 14 December 1992, the associated farm was completely renovated after 1930, partially altering its original state. Its official address, 46 rue de l'Église, and its approximate GPS location (2 Rue du Chemin Creux) underline its anchoring in the urban fabric of Loudrefing, Moselle.

The monument illustrates the evolution of the 18th century Lorrain farms, where the woodpan dominated the upper floors, while the masonry reinforced the lower levels. The presence of an integrated bread oven suggests a household autonomy typical of the rural farms of the time, where bread production was central. Its late classification (1992) reflects a late heritage recognition, but essential to preserve this regional architectural specimen.
