Origin and history

The hotel at 28 rue Geoffroy-l'Asnier is a private hotel located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. This monument is mainly known for its wrought iron staircase ramp, a remarkable architectural element. Although the hotel itself is not fully protected, this ramp has received special attention from the heritage authorities.

The wrought iron staircase of this hotel was listed as historic monuments on 29 March 1928. This decorative and functional element was then moved to another building, located at 21 rue Boissonade in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. This relocation led to its decommissioning of historic monuments on 7 October 2008, marking the end of its official protection.

Today, the hotel at 28 rue Geoffroy-l'Asnier remains a testimony of Parisian architecture, although its most emblematic element has been transferred elsewhere. The Mérimée base, which lists the historical monuments in France, still lists this hotel under code PA00086620, stressing its historical importance despite the modifications made.
