Origin and history

The house at 25 rue Paul-Doumer in Arras is an 18th-century building. It is representative of the civil architecture of this period in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1946 specifically covers the facade and roof, remarkable elements of its construction.

Arras, the city of Pas-de-Calais, was in the 18th century a dynamic urban centre, marked by a rising bourgeoisie and a flourishing commercial activity. The houses of that time often reflected the social status of their owners, with neat facades and architectural details sought. This type of building contributed to the beautification of the city, then in full economic and cultural expansion.

The location of this house, now known as Rue Paul-Doumer (formerly numbered 15), is attested by the archives of the Merimée base. Although information about its original use or owners is missing from available sources, its listing as Historic Monuments bears witness to its heritage importance. The accuracy of its location is considered to be "a priori satisfactory", which allows it to be located with relative accuracy in the urban fabric hindquarters.
