Origin and history

The House near the river at Saint-Leu-d'Esserent, dated the 17th century, was listed as historical monuments by order of 14 May 1927. This building, whose exact identification remains uncertain, could correspond to the old Hôtel-Dieu of the city, whose wall still remains today. Despite this ambiguity, the protection order was formally repealed after its destruction.

The house was destroyed during the 1940 bombings in the context of World War II. Available sources, such as the Merimée base, locate the site approximately at 38bis Rue des Forges, but geographical accuracy is considered very poor (note 1/10). No information confirms its use after the seventeenth century or before its disappearance.

The inscription of 1927 specifically concerned the house of the seventeenth century, without mentioning other protected architectural elements. After the damage of 1940, no reconstruction or preservation project seems to have been initiated, and the archives do not specify whether remains (outside the potential wall of the Hotel-God) have been preserved. The commune, attached to the Oise department, now belongs to the Hauts-de-France region.
