Origin and history
The house in Riom, classified as a Historical Monument, dates from the 17th century and illustrates the civil architecture of the Louis XIV period. Its most remarkable element is its inner courtyard, accessible by a vaulted corridor of wooden ceilings with caissons. This courtyard, framed on two sides by balconies superimposed on two floors, rests on a series of doric stone columns. The balusters, also made of stone, add a touch of classical elegance, while older remains, such as a Gothic staircase, testify to successive changes in the building.
The protection of the monument specifically concerns its inner courtyard, inscribed by ministerial decree on 25 June 1925. This space thus combines various stylistic influences: 17th century classicism, visible in balconies and columns, and medieval traces, such as the Gothic staircase. The house, located at 47 rue du Commerce, reflects the architectural evolution of Riom, a city marked by its commercial and administrative past in Auvergne.
The exact address, confirmed by the Mérimée base, places the monument in the department of Puy-de-Dôme (code Insee 63300), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Although the GPS location is approximate (accuracy note: 5/10), sources such as Monumentum and internal data provide evidence of its heritage importance. No information is available on its current access to the public, its possible vocation (rent, visit) or possible historical owners.
