16th century gate on street: inscription by decree of 20 June 1925

Origin and history

The house in Riom, Puy-de-Dôme, is a remarkable example of 16th century civil architecture. Its most notable element is its front door, which combines the flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance styles. The legs, decorated with flamboyant mouldings, support a lintel surmounted by an archvolt whose tympanum is pierced with a rosette. Renaissance pilasters frame the door, while a flamboyant gable, flanked by bell towers, crown together. This facade, along with the possible staircase, dates from this period of artistic transition.

The door to this house was listed as a Historic Monument by order of June 20, 1925, thus recognizing its heritage value. The building illustrates the evolution of architectural styles between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, with persistent Gothic details and new influences. The precise location, 4 Rue Croisier in Riom, is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases, although the cartographic accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10).

No information is available on the current use of the building, whether it be an opening to the public, a room rental or a tourist activity. Sources are limited to the architectural description and legal protection of the door, without reference to sponsors, historical occupants or events related to this house.
