Origin and history

The house in Riom, built in the 1st quarter of the 18th century, is a notable historical monument for its niche housing a statue of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. This statue, dated 1722, commemorates the memory of the ancient Baptistry Saint John, formerly close to the place. The niche, adorned with a frame of foliage falling in braid, features the Precursor with its traditional attributes. The house is probably the former home of the prior-curé of Saint John, highlighting its connection to local religious history.

The facade and staircase of this house are the main elements of its construction dating from the early eighteenth century. The niche and its statuette were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on April 6, 1929. This protection highlights the heritage importance of this sculptural element, a witness to the local devotion and religious architecture of the time.

The precise address of this monument, 5 rue Massillon in Riom, in Puy-de-Dôme, allows to situate it in an urban context marked by the medieval and religious history of the region. The location, although noted as "passable" in terms of precision, remains a point of interest for visitors wishing to explore Riom's architectural and spiritual heritage.
