Origin and history
Thiers House, classified as a Historic Monument, dates mainly from the seventeenth century and embodies the classical architecture of this period. It is distinguished by a rectangular inner courtyard and a communication corridor opening onto the street. Its most remarkable element is a four-level square staircase, located on the south side of the courtyard. This staircase, on the rampant flights between straight spans, is highlighted by rectangular geminied bays, of which the third level has a crusillon. Although interiors have been modernized, some French ceilings and red tiles remain.
The entrance gate, consisting of a unique arcade framed with pilasters, is surmounted by a triangular pediment on a flat-band, typical of the classic style. The house was fully protected, including its staircase, by a registration order in 2010. Located at 4 rue Conchette, it reflects the local architectural know-how and the evolution of bourgeois dwellings of the modern era in Auvergne.
The interior changes, although modernizing, have not completely erased the original traces, such as the decorated ceilings and tiles, which testify to the relative luxury of this house. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory a priori, and its exact address is confirmed by Merimée bases and GPS coordinates. This monument offers a preserved example of the 17th century urban habitat in the Thien region, marked by its nascent industrial and artisanal heritage.
