The façade: inscription by decree of 16 July 1925
Origin and history
The house of the quai de la Grande-Chambre is a civilian dwelling located in the Croisic, in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built during the second quarter of the seventeenth century, it illustrates the domestic architecture of this period, marked by often sober facades but representative of local constructive techniques. Its location on the wharf, close to the coast, suggests a historical link to the city's port or commercial activities, although the sources do not specify its original use.
Ranked among the historical monuments by decree of 16 July 1925, this house enjoys a protection limited to its facade, an architectural element considered remarkable. The Croisic, integrated into the country of Gerande, was in modern times a dynamic village, drawn by fishing, maritime trade and the exploitation of salt. The houses of that time often served as houses for merchants, shipowners or artisans, playing a central role in the economic and social life of the community.
Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) mention its inscription as historical monuments, but do not provide details of its owners, subsequent transformations or its contemporary use. The Mérimée base, a reference for the French architectural heritage, lists its exact address (quai de la Grande-Chambre) and its Insee code (44049), confirming its anchoring in the historical urban fabric of the Croisic.
