Origin and history
The Salvant and Vallat house, located in the heart of the village of Collonges-la-Rouge in Corrèze, is a representative example of the civilian habitat of the 15th and 16th centuries. This building, structured around a cellar, a ground floor, a floor and an attic, is distinguished by architectural elements characteristic as a stone screw staircase. The stylistic evolutions of this pivotal period between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance can be seen in a muddy opening and a 16th century skylight.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 4 January 1951, the protection specifically concerns facades, roofs and screw staircases (cadastral park 264). This status highlights the heritage value of the building, whose location at 5054 Le Bourg is documented by the Mérimée and Monumentum bases. The administrative address, linked to the commune of Collonges-la-Rouge (code Insee 19057), places this monument in the department of Corrèze, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (formerly Limousin).
Although the available sources do not specify its current use (visit, accommodation, etc.), the Salvant and Vallat house illustrates the civil built heritage of this region, marked by an iconic red stone. Its state of conservation and its location in a village classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France make it a privileged witness to local history, between medieval heritage and Renaissance adaptations.
