Origin and history
The house located in Montferreil, Île-de-France, is an attested building from the end of the 18th century. This building, whose initial structure dates back to this period, underwent major changes during the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Its history was marked by a division of property in 1875, accompanied by significant works that probably shaped its present appearance, especially in interior spaces such as the living room and the office.
The living room of this house is particularly remarkable for its preserved decor, consisting of rectangular painted panels, friezes and medallions fixed under glass. These artistic elements, covering almost entirely the room, represent allegories of the four seasons, architectural motifs, garlands of flowers and faces of ancient characters. The windows of the living room, as well as those of the adjacent office, are decorated with stained glass windows illustrating the four seasons. These decorative features, probably dated to the second half of the 19th century, bear witness to artisanal know-how and an eclectic aesthetic typical of this era.
Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 21 May 2010, the house is protected for its facades, roofs, as well as for the entire living room and office, including their decor. This protection underscores the heritage importance of the building, both for its architecture and for its interior elements, which offer a valuable testimony to the decorative tastes and artistic techniques of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The precise address of the house, 23 rue de l'Eglise in Montferreil, allows to situate it in an urban context in evolution, especially in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, in the Île-de-France region.
