Covered gallery: inscription by order of 25 June 1929
Origin and history
The Senié house is part of an architectural complex known as the Cutlery, located in the city of Mirepoix, Occitanie. This monument is characterized by a covered gallery, typical of medieval or post-medieval buildings designed to house commercial activities and passers-by. The inscription of this gallery as a Historical Monument by order of 25 June 1929 bears witness to its heritage importance and its preservation in the urban landscape of Mirepoix.
The Cutlery, of which Senié House is an element, reflect a common urban organization in the cities of southern France in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. These structures were often used as places of commerce, sociability and weather protection. In Mirepoix, as in other cities in the Occitanie region, these spaces played a central role in economic and social life, promoting exchanges between merchants, artisans and inhabitants. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the evolution of urban and architectural practices in this part of France.
