Origin and history
Villebrumier's house is a Chartreuse-style house built shortly after 1810, on the foundations of an old castle whose only remains is a carved lintel re-used in the east facade. This rectangular building, organized in double depth, preserves stylistic elements inherited from the 18th century, such as segmental arch windows and original small tile carpentry. Its interior plan follows the classic model of the Chartreuses, with a central span crossing between courtyard and garden, housing a vestibule and a living room.
The dining room houses an exceptional panoramic wallpaper, dating from the construction and illustrating views of the Roman countryside. This decor, combined with the interior distribution in double enfilade, reflects the taste for refined interiors in the early 19th century. The house, whose facades and roofs have been protected since 2006, thus embodies the evolution of bourgeois houses of the period, mixing architectural heritage and decorative innovations.
The building is also distinguished by elements of use, such as the stone lintel adorned with an arch in braid on the eastern facade, vestige of the previous castle. This detail, combined with the persistence of forms of the eighteenth century in carpentry and openings, underscores the stylistic transition made during its construction. The house, located on Rue de l'Hôpital, has partial protection including wallpaper and exterior elevations.
