Facade and roof on the rue de l'Ancienne-Poissonnerie: inscription by order of 12 October 1946

Origin and history

The houses on Rue des Bijoutiers in Beaucaire are a historic monument whose protected elements include the facade and roof overlooking the rue de l'Ancienne-Poissonnerie. These buildings, located at 7 rue des Bijoutiers, were registered by ministerial decree on 12 October 1946, marking their heritage recognition. Their precise location, although noted as "passable" (level 5/10), remains a point of interest for the study of Beaucaire's ancient urban fabric.

Rue des Bijoutiers is located in the historic centre of Beaucaire, a town in the Gard region of Occitanie, formerly integrated into Languedoc-Roussillon. This type of house, often grouped in alignment, reflects local architectural and artisanal practices, particularly related to craft trades such as that of jewellers, referred to by the name of the street. Their preservation is part of the collective memory of a time when commercial and residential activities coexisted closely in medieval and modern cities.

The available data, especially from the Merimée database and the Monumentum platform, highlight the importance of these facades as material witnesses to urban history. However, precise information on their construction, historical occupants or their exact role in local life remains limited. Their protection in 1946 nevertheless attests to their heritage value, in a post-Second World War context where the preservation of the old building became a priority in France.
