Facades and roofs (Box 1202, 1292): inscription by order of 23 June 1950

Origin and history

Dunes' houses, located in Place de la Mairie in Tarn-et-Garonne, are two 15th century buildings classified as Historic Monument. Their particularity lies in their structure in wooden panels and bricks, as well as in their arcades and covered, characteristic of the medieval buildings of the region. These architectural elements, still visible today, bear witness to local construction techniques and the urban organization of the period.

These houses were protected by an order of 23 June 1950, which included their facades and roofs in the inventory of Historic Monuments. Their location, near the town hall, suggests a central role in the community life of Dunes, a village then integrated into a typical economic and social network of Midi de la France. Their conservation offers an overview of medieval civilian habitat in Occitanie, marked by the use of wood and brick.

The accuracy of their geographical location is estimated as fair (note of 5/10), with an official address in place of the Town Hall, although GPS coordinates also place them at 11 Rue Pierre Dupuy. These differences reflect the challenges of historical documentation for small rural heritages. Their current status and accessibility (visit, rental) are not specified in the available sources.
