Origin and history
Beaumont Manor House is a building located in Joué-en-Charnie, in the historical region of Maine, now part of the Sarthe department. This monument is part of the local architectural heritage, although its exact construction period is not specified in the available sources. Its inscription in historical monuments in 1980 concerned facades, roofs and several chimneys, attesting to its heritage interest.
The mansion is about 1 km north of the town of Joué-en-Charnie, in a rural setting characteristic of the region. The Pays de la Loire, and in particular the Sarthe, houses many such buildings, often linked to the seigneurial or agricultural history of the region. These manors, although less imposing than the castles, played a central role in the local social and economic organization, serving as residences or management centres for surrounding lands.
The architecture of the Beaumont mansion, although partially described, includes elements typical of old buildings, such as chimneys and commons. These characteristics often reflect the practical and aesthetic needs of past eras, where buildings had to combine functionality and social representation. The listing of parts of the mansion in 1980 underlines the desire to preserve this heritage for future generations.
