Origin and history

Chauvigné Manor is a historic building located in Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne, in the department of Maine-et-Loire (Pays de la Loire). Built between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, it illustrates the seigneurial residential architecture of this period, with elements dating back to the Middle Ages and subsequent transformations. The site is representative of the Angelian manors, often linked to the aristocracy or the local earth bourgeoisie.

From the 17th to the 19th century, the mansion belonged to the Tremblier family, a line probably involved in the management of local lands and resources. This period corresponds to a time when manor houses served both as a residence and administrative centre for the surrounding agricultural estates. The building has been partially protected since 1984, with a specific inscription for the 17th century oriental gate of the house.

The inscription to the historic monuments in 1984 underscores the heritage value of the mansion, particularly for its facade and its characteristic architectural elements. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rentals, etc.), its conservation reflects the interest in this type of heritage in Anjou. The exact location, near Rue du Manoir in Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne, is documented in official bases like Mérimée.
