Origin and history
The manor house of the Font-Haute, also known as Château de la Font-Haute, is a 16th century house located in Cazoulès, in the Black Perigord. This monument has been listed as a historic monument since 1977, reflecting its heritage importance. Its trapu architecture, marked by two large round towers on its northern facade, reflects the characteristics of the buildings of this period.
Around 1580, Pierre Catemisse, capitin at the castle of Carlux, had this house built as well as outbuildings, including a dovecote, a garden and orchards. The main house body presents a tangle of roofs, surmounted by a bell with a girouette. The 19th century left visible traces, especially on both towers and the second building body. Inside, a two-fly staircase serves the floors, and two original chimneys were kept in the dining room and living room.
The facades and roofs of the mansion have been protected since a decree of 23 February 1977. This monument illustrates the architectural evolution between the Renaissance and the 19th century, while remaining anchored in its historical and geographical environment of the Black Perigord.
