Origin and history

The manor house of La Rocherousse is a fortified complex located in the commune of Quessoy, in the department of Côtes-d'Armor (region Brittany). Built in two phases between the end of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century, it consists of a central house body surrounded by defensive enclosures flanked by towers. The moat, 11 meters wide and now dried, delimit the property, while outbuildings (pavillon d ́entrée, chapel, press, mill) are distributed on both sides. This system reflects a defensive architecture typical of the period, adapted to the local tensions of the time.

In the 19th century, the mansion underwent major changes, including the disappearance of four towers adjacent to its eastern façade. Until the French Revolution, access was protected by two drawbridges, highlighting its residential and strategic character. Together, including court walls, enclosures, moat and canal, has been listed as historic monuments since March 22, 2002. This protection also covers the facades and roofs of the 19th century communes, the press and the chapel, demonstrating the desire to preserve an architectural heritage representative of the Ancien Régime Brittany.

The location of the manor, at 6 La Roche Rousse in Quessoy, is attested by the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, which specify its Insee code (22258) and its attachment to the arrondissement of Saint-Brieuc. Although the sources mention a priori satisfactory location accuracy (note 6/10), no information is available on its current accessibility (visits, accommodation or events).
