Origin and history

Malmont Manor is a building located in the department of Ain, on the town of Curciat-Dongalon, along the road from Curciat to Montpont. Nearby, the Sâne Vive River winds to the northwest. This mansion belonged to the fief of the lords of Malmont, a noble family whose origins date back to Étienne le Sauvage, son of Guichard, whose lineage was established at Vonnas, near Bourg-en-Bresse.

The mansion was listed as a historical monument by order of 28 December 1990. Today it is a private property, but it opens its doors to the public every year during Pentecost and European Heritage Days. Some historical documents mention this fief under the name Malmont-Curciat, stressing its close link with the commune.

Although the archives do not specify the exact period of its construction, the mansion embodies the architectural and seigneurial heritage of the Bresse region. Its access is restricted outside of cultural events, but it remains an important testimony of local heritage, managed by its current owners and highlighted on specific occasions.
