Origin and history
The manor house of Pierre Fontaine is an emblematic building located in the commune of Sainte-Gemmes-le-Robert, in the department of Mayenne (Pays de la Loire). Built on older foundations, its current home dates back to 1540, attributed to Jacques de Bouillé. This historic site also includes a chapel dedicated to Saint Denis, probably built in the seventeenth century, now converted into an agricultural shed. The estate is associated with a castral motte today destroyed, reflecting an earlier occupation of the site.
The mansion was restored by the Robert de Chièvres family, owner of the premises, although the precise details of this work are not documented. The architectural complex, including the Renaissance house and the remains of the chapel, was inscribed as the Historic Monuments on December 7, 1925. This ranking underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its history linked to the local aristocracy. The precise location of the manor house, less than 2 km from the village, makes it an important part of the historical landscape of Mayenne.
Available sources, including the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, confirm its status as a historical monument under the name of "Manoir de Pierrefontaine". The site, although partially transformed for agricultural uses, retains significant architectural elements from the 16th and 17th centuries. His exact address, 5129 Pierrefontaine, and his code Insee (53218) clearly relate him to the commune of Sainte-Gemmes-le-Robert, in the borough of Laval.
