Origin and history

The manor house of Plessis-Guilleux is a French castle located in Bonchamp-lès-Laval, in the department of Mayenne (Pays de la Loire). Located 3 km south of the village, it is mentioned from 1453 under the name Le Plessis Guillou, then on the maps of Cassini (Le Plessis-Guilleu) and State-Major (Le Plessis or Plessis-aux-Châtaignes). This historic site illustrates the toponymic and architectural evolution of the rural manors of the region.

The present house, built in the seventeenth century, has a two-storey structure preceded by a curved portal dated 1698, covered with slates. The roof, in the shape of pavilions at the ends of the main body, reflects the aesthetic codes of the time. The courtyard, walled and accessible by this porch, highlights the defensive and residential character of the mansion, typical of the seigneurial residences of the Mayenne.

No information is available on the seigneuries who occupied the site or on specific historical events that took place there. The sources mention only his inscription in the Dictionnaire historique de la Mayenne (1900-1910) and his reference in the base Mérimée, dedicated to the French architectural heritage. The mansion is thus part of a local heritage preserved, but little documented beyond its physical characteristics.
