Origin and history
Le Manoir de Quénétain is a building located in the commune of Saint-Uniac, Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany. Built between 1650 and 1670, it replaces an earlier destroyed building. This mansion consists of a house, a chapel dated 1641, a dovecote (or fled), and a supply, organized around a rectangular courtyard once closed with walls and moats. These elements, partially disappeared or recast, bear witness to its evolution over the centuries, particularly under the influence of 19th century agricultural activities, which led to the construction of new dependencies and the modification of existing structures.
The mansion has been listed as historic monuments since 26 September 2005. This protection covers the facades and roofs of the house and chapel, as well as the dovecote and the supply in their entirety. It also includes the courtyard to the south of the house and the adjacent garden, with its moats. These measures aim to preserve an architectural complex representative of the Breton manors of the 17th century, marked by a typical spatial organization and developments linked to the farm.
Located west of Ille-et-Vilaine, the manor house is located southwest of Saint-Uniac and east of Boisgervilly. Its approximate address, 5045 Quénétain, reflects its anchoring in a rural territory where manor houses often played a central role in local social and economic organization. The moat and the court, although partially altered, recall its status as a seigneurial residence or a prosperous agricultural estate in modern times.
