Origin and history

Le Manoir de Querville is a 16th and 17th century mansion in the municipality of Prêtreville, Calvados, Normandy. Built of brick and stone, it preserves the remains of an earlier building from the early 16th century. The main house body, half-timbered upstairs, is accompanied by outbuildings and a dovecote, typical of Norman manors of that time.

The mansion was erected by the Querville family on the site of a castle that it had owned since 1300. Renovated in the 17th century, it was sold in 1652 to Guillaume de Mauduit. In 1998, he still belonged to Mr. Courtemanche. The site, still active as a farm, saw its facades, roofs, entrance pavilion and dovecote inscribed in historical monuments by order of 9 September 1933.

Architecturally, the mansion reflects the Henri IV style, mixing brick, stone and half-timber. Its entrance pavilion and dovecote, characteristic of seigneurial domains, testify to its historical importance. The protected elements illustrate the transition between medieval fortifications and modern times agricultural residences, marked by mixed use (housing and exploitation).
