Origin and history

Roquefort Manor House is a 17th century mansion built at the beginning of this period in an architectural Louis XIII style. Located in Angiens, in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy, it is distinguished by its quadrangular house on one floor, surmounted by a four-sided roof. The facades combine bricks and sandstones, with harped chains highlighting the spans and angles on the south facade, while the north facade is entirely sandstone. This mansion reflects the characteristics of the aristocratic constructions of the time, mixing functionality and classical aesthetics.

The manor belonged successively to a younger branch of the lords of Crasville-la-Rocquefort, then to the families of Polignac and Rocquigny in the 19th century. These changes of owners illustrate the social and economic changes of the nobility and the Earth bourgeoisie in Normandy. In the 20th century, the mansion was restored from 1968 by Mr. Gouffé, an intervention that preserved its architectural integrity and historical character.

Since 1972, the manor façades and roofs have been listed as historic monuments, recognizing their heritage value. This official protection underlines the importance of this building in the Norman architectural heritage. The mansion is also referenced in specialized works such as those of Philippe Seydoux or in Le Patrimoine des Communes de la Seine-Maritime, which attests to its historical and cultural interest.

Located at 379 Rue de la Mer in Angiens, Roquefort Manor House is a testimony of local and regional history. Its registration in the Merimée database and its mention in resources such as Monumentum make it a documented site, although some practical information, such as its accessibility to the public, remains to be specified. Its architecture and history make it an example of Norman manors of the modern era.
