Origin and history
Tourpes Manor House is an iconic building located in Troarn, Calvados department, Normandy. Built in the 16th century, it embodies the residential architecture of this period, marked by the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its facades and roofs, typical of the period, have been preserved until today.
The monument is located northeast of the church of the former commune of Bures-sur-Dives, now attached to Troarn since 1972. This proximity to a place of worship reflects the spatial organization of Norman villages, where religious and seigneurial buildings often coexisted.
Since 26 December 1928, the facades and roofs of the Tourpes mansion have been listed as historical monuments. This official protection underscores its heritage and architectural importance, while ensuring its conservation for future generations. No additional information is available on its history or owners.
Calvados, where Troarn is located, was in modern times an area marked by agriculture, livestock and river trade thanks to the Dives. Manor houses like Tourpes often served as residences for wealthy families, playing a central role in local economic and social life.
