Origin and history

The mansion of Vrigné, located in Juigné-sur-Sarthe in the Pays de la Loire, is an emblematic building of the late 15th century. It consists of a central housing body framed by wings in return, supplemented by a polygonal staircase turret, typical of the civil architecture of this period. Its present state reflects successive transformations, although its original structure remains identifiable.

Ranked as Historic Monuments on August 28, 1989, the mansion bears witness to an ancient occupation of the site. A first house, combined with a castral motte, would have existed between the 10th and 13th centuries, before being destroyed on an indefinite date. The current house, built between the late 15th and early 16th centuries, incorporates elements such as chimneys and a vegetable garden. A chapel, erected around 1530, was destroyed between 1791 and 1828, while agricultural buildings, prior to 1828, were rebuilt in the 19th century.

The site also includes a medieval pool on the Sarthe, highlighting its historic anchoring in the local landscape. Today, a private property, the manor house retains a marked heritage value, illustrating the architectural and social evolution of the region since the Middle Ages.
