Origin and history
Le Clos de la Platière is a mansion located in Theizé, in the Rhône department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built probably in the 16th century, it was restored in the 18th century. This monument is particularly known for having housed Manon Roland and her husband Jean-Marie Roland de La Platier, two prominent figures of the French Revolution, between 1780 and 1789. Its architecture and history are an important testimony of this period.
The manor house was listed at the Historic Monuments in 1974 for its facades, roofs, interior staircase and fireplace with its stumb from the boudoir on the first floor. These protected elements reflect the architectural style of the 16th and 18th centuries, as well as the heritage significance of the site. The Clos de la Platière is today an emblematic site of Rhodoan heritage.
Theizé, where the mansion is located, is a commune in the Rhône department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. In modern times, this region was marked by a rural and artisanal economy, with manor houses like this often serving as residences for bourgeois or aristocratic families.
