Origin and history

The manor house of the Cour de la Maison is an iconic building located in Varaville, Calvados department, Normandy. Dated from the sixteenth and first quarter of the eighteenth centuries, it illustrates the residential architecture of these periods, mixing Renaissance elements and classical additions. Its facades and roofs, characteristic of these periods, were protected as historical monuments by a decree of 12 February 1976.

The monument is located on the departmental road 513 (former R.N. 813), in a typical rural setting of the Pays d'Auge. Although the sources do not specify its original use, this type of manor was often linked to local aristocracy or landowners, playing a central role in the economic and social organization of the region. In modern times, Norman manor houses served as residences but also as administrative centres for the surrounding agricultural estates.

No information is available on historical owners or specific events related to this mansion. However, its designation as a historical monument bears witness to its heritage importance. Data from the Merimée database and Monumentum's references confirm its protected status, without providing additional details on its history or occupants. The precise location, marked as "satisfactory" (level 6/10), allows to identify the site on the current maps.
