Origin and history

The Beugnon mansion, located in Bourges, has its origins on a Roman site called Buignum. The present foundations, partially visible in the north, are based on these ancient remains. The site has been profoundly redesigned over the centuries, with architectural traces dating from the twelfth, thirteenth, sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Part of the mansion was destroyed around 1573, after a siege linked to the Wars of Religion, marking a period of trouble for the estate.

In the 18th century, a linen dryer was built in 1763 on the site of an old wing, reflecting the adaptation of the mansion to local economic activities. The estate revolves around a square courtyard, preceded by a structured garden and vegetable gardens crossed by the Rampenne, including pools and a mill. Among the remarkable elements are a barn, a dovecote, and a basket handle portal. The flax dryer, transformed into a home, illustrates the functional evolution of the site.

The mansion is also linked to a historical anecdote: Reverend Father Prot, a Jesuit returning from Venezuela, would have acclimatized the first turkeys in France at the end of the sixteenth century. These "Cocks of India", reported as couples, marked a notable introduction to local agriculture. The estate, classified as a Historical Monument since 1963 for its facades and roofs, thus preserves traces both military, agricultural and innovative.

Today, the Beugnon Manor House is located on Boulevard de l'Industrie and 1 rue de Mazières in Bourges, in the Cher department. Its approximate address, confirmed by GPS coordinates, and its location considered satisfactory (note 6/10), make it an accessible site, although the practical information on the visits or services offered is not detailed in the available sources.
