René Hardy de Lévaré - Manor builder House built in 1780.

Origin and history

The Bois Morin mansion is a French castle located in Bonchamp-lès-Laval, in the department of Mayenne, in the Pays de la Loire region. It is about 2 kilometres north of the village, along the road linking Argentré to Laval. This site, formerly seigneurial land, had land rights and housed a parker, reflecting its importance in the local feudal organization.

The construction of the current mansion dates back to 1780, when it was built by René Hardy de Lévaré. The latter, although little documented in the source text, is associated with the transformation of this former seigneury into a building representative of the aristocratic residential architecture of the late eighteenth century. The mansion is thus part of the landscape of the seigneurial houses of Mayenne, marked by their social and economic role.

No further information is available on successive lords, major events or subsequent transformations of the mansion. Its inclusion in the Mayenne Castle List, however, underscores its heritage interest. Historical sources, such as the Dictionnaire historique, topographie et biographie de la Mayenne (1900-1910), briefly mention the site, but without exhaustive details of its use or evolution after 1780.
