Origin and history

The Follet Manor House, located in Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër, Sarthe, is a historical fief of the Lorouër. It belonged to the Lejeune de Malherbe family from the Middle Ages, with Michel Le Jeune, squire, who paid tribute to it in 1489 for its lands. In 1707 Emery de Malherbe was the lord, before Charles-Hercule Lejeune de Malherbe, the last descendant to be ruined, sold the estate in 1752.

The mansion then passed to the Lefebvre family, a buyer via Jean Lefebvre, farmer-general of the local priory. His daughter, Jeanne Françoise, married René François Prudhomme, adviser to the king and subdelegated to the intendant of Tours, who took the title of seigneur of Follet. The estate remains in this line until Olivier Prudhomme de La Boussinière (1820-1907), and is then passed on to the Lunet family of Lajonquière by inheritance.

The manor house, inhabited by local mayors such as René-Jean-François Prudhomme de La Boussinière, was listed as a historic monument on September 20, 1928. Its history reflects the social and economic changes of the nobility and the Sarthois bourgeoisie, from the 15th to the 20th centuries.
