Origin and history

The Mazonric Manor House, located in Pradelles en Haute-Loire, is an emblematic building of the 3rd quarter of the 16th century. Its structure, marked by an advanced stair tower and a body of rectangular houses, reflects the architectural cannons of the Renaissance. This type of construction was common among the prosperous noble or bourgeois families of the time, serving both as a residence and as a symbol of social status.

The construction of the Mazonric coincides with the height of the Belvezer family, already influential in the 15th century. This line was distinguished by its high rank in watches and magazines (military or censitary reviews of the Ancien Régime), its charitable works, and its prestigious matrimonial alliances. The mansion thus embodies their economic power and integration into the local elite, while at the same time testifying to the architectural practices of the Auvergne of the late 16th century.

The remaining parts of the mansion were protected as historical monuments by an order of 27 October 1986. This official recognition underlines its heritage importance, although the site is only open to the public on an ad hoc basis, particularly during European Heritage Days. The building remains a tangible testimony to the social and architectural history of the Haute-Loire.
