Origin and history
The "Les Frères" mansion, located in Auzeville-Tolosane in Haute-Garonne (Occitanie region), is a 17th-century building. His name came from the community of tailors of Paris who acquired it around 1655. These religious, installed in the mansion, gave him his current name, linked to their congregation. The building, of square plan and built in brick, includes an octagonal tower housing a spiral staircase, characteristic of the architecture of the era.
During the French Revolution, the manor house was confiscated and sold as a national property, like many ecclesiastical or aristocratic properties of that period. This change in status marks a break in its history from a religious place to a secular property. The facades and roofs of the mansion were finally protected by an inscription to the historic monuments on December 17, 1976, thereby recognizing its heritage value.
The architectural complex includes, in addition to the main body of the seventeenth century, old brick communes and a closed vegetable garden, testifying to its use both residential and agricultural. The north-east facade, accessible by a grid pierced in the enclosure, features a door surmounted by a pediment decorated with Louis XIII style balusters, a remarkable decorative element. A more recent building was added to the side façade, illustrating the transformations of the mansion over the centuries.
The place's toponymy is directly linked to its religious history: the name The Brothers recalls the occupation by the congregation of tailors' brothers, whose installation in 1655 marked the identity of the site. Their presence, until the Revolution, shaped both the name and vocation of the mansion, before the political upheavals of the 18th century changed its destiny.
Today, the Manor The Brothers is distinguished by its brick architecture, typical of the Toulouse region, and by its spiral staircase housed in an octagonal tower. These features, coupled with its inscription in historical monuments, make it a representative example of the civil and religious heritage of the Haute-Garonne, between late medieval heritage and classical influences.
