Origin and history
The manor house called Le Lieu Calice is an emblematic building of the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, located in Hotot-en-Auge, Calvados department, Normandy. Dated precisely from 1739, it illustrates the architecture of the manor houses of the Auge country during the reign of Louis XV, with a forebody decorated with a characteristic pediment. Its facades, covered with slate to protect the interior from moisture, reflect the local constructive techniques of the time.
The manor house was partially protected under the Historic Monuments by order of 16 April 1975. This measure specifically concerns facades and roofs, as well as two remarkable interior spaces: the ground floor living room and a bedroom on the first floor, the latter being decorated with a painted decor. These elements testify to the refinement of the seigneurial or bourgeois houses of the region in the eighteenth century.
Historical sources mention the manor house in several specialized works, such as Les manoirs du Pays d'Auge (1995) or the Statistique monumentale du Calvados (1867) d'Arcisse de Caumont. These references highlight its heritage importance in the Norman architectural landscape. No information is available on potential owners or sponsors or on contemporary use (visits, accommodation).
