Origin and history

The Vigneron mansion is an iconic building located in Honfleur, Calvados department, Normandy. Built at the end of the 16th century, it illustrates traditional wood-paned architecture, characteristic of this period. Its corbellation and portal, formerly used as access to the prison, testify to its historical and functional importance in the city.

Ranked a historic monument on September 28, 1932, the mansion has been home to a museum of ethnography since the late 19th century. This museum, integrated into a building full of history, offers an overview of local traditions and the daily life of Honfleur's inhabitants throughout the centuries. The property now belongs to the municipality.

The building is also distinguished by its precise location at 6 Rue de la Prison, a detail that strengthens its link to the judicial history of the city. Although the sources indicate average geographic accuracy, its address and ranking make it a must-see heritage site in the region.
