Origin and history

The Bois-Hibout Manor House, also known as Lieutenance, is an iconic building located in the heart of Dives-sur-Mer, Calvados department. Built in the 17th century, this stone building is distinguished by its five levels and its prominent staircase resting on a trunk. Its facades, marked by ressalt stones, reflect a neat architecture, typical of the fortified residences of the period. The monument has been listed as a historical monument since 1927 for its architectural qualities.

The exact origins of the mansion remain uncertain, but it is attested that it was the residence of Arthur Le Duc de la Falaise, lieutenant of the Admiralty of Dives. Subsequently, the building passed into the hands of a Sieur de Bois-Hibout, before becoming, in the 19th century, a dwelling for the gendarmerie. This evolution reflects its adaptation to local administrative and military needs over the centuries.

Located in Place de la République, in the city centre of Dives-sur-Mer, the mansion embodies a civil and maritime heritage linked to Norman history. Its inscription in 1927 underscores its historical and architectural importance, while preserving a testimony of the administrative and residential functions it has housed since the seventeenth century.
