Origin and history
The Colombier mansion is located in the municipality of Clermain, in Saône-et-Loire, on the hillside. This building is distinguished by its balanced architecture, with a rectangular central house body, flanked by two symmetrical pavilions. The main façade, preceded by a narrow terrace, features a forebody surmounted by a pediment, while the roofs, in hollow or flat tiles, highlight the hierarchy of volumes. The ensemble reflects a sober and elegant style, characteristic of the bourgeois rural buildings of the early eighteenth century.
The history of the mansion remains largely unknown, due to lack of available archival documents. The only indications suggest a major construction or transformation in the early eighteenth century, a period marked in Burgundy by the development of secondary residences for local elites. The absence of written sources makes it impossible to trace its evolution, its successive owners, or its precise role in local life. The mansion, still privately owned, is not open to the public.
A study conducted in the 1970s, published in the Departmental Inventory of the Canton of Tramayes by R. Oursel, is one of the few documentary references on this monument. This inventory lists the castles and manor houses of Saône-et-Loire, offering an architectural and historical overview. No other source mentions the Colombian Manor House, which makes it a discrete heritage, preserved but little studied.
