Origin and history
The Beunêche mansion is an iconic building located in Roézé-sur-Sarthe, in the historical region of Maine, France. This house has a southern Renaissance façade, dating from the mid-16th century, richly decorated with sculptures. One of its peculiarities lies in its unfinished state: one side of the building remains raw, while the other is equipped with a corner tower surmounted by a row of consoles. On the other hand, the north facade is decorated with a quadrangular pavilion, adding to the architectural harmony of the ensemble.
The mansion is an architectural testimony of the French Renaissance, a period marked by artistic renewal and a desire to embellish seigneurial residences. In Maine, a region under the influence of local dynasties and cultural exchanges with Italy, manor houses like the Beunêche reflect this transition between the Middle Ages and the modern era, combining traditional defenses and refined aesthetics.
The Beunêche Manor House has been listed as a historic monument since 24 April 1950 and is an example of the heritage importance of these buildings. This official protection underscores its historical and architectural value, while ensuring its preservation for future generations. The site is listed in national databases, such as the Merimée database, dedicated to the French architectural heritage.
