Origin and history

The Mas de Riussec, located in Gignac in Occitanie, is a wine estate whose mansion dates back to the late eighteenth century. This building, probably renovated at the end of the 19th century, is part of an architectural complex including an orangery, terraces and commons built after 1860. The park, planted at the same time, completes this landscape typical of the major agricultural areas of Languedoc.

Ranked Historic Monument in 2008, the estate protects its facades, roofs, terraces, park and garden, including a box driveway and springs. These elements reflect the evolution of wine and architectural practices between the 18th and 19th centuries, marked by the beautification of rural residences and the integration of landscaped gardens.

The official address of the estate (5818 F Domaine de Rieussec) and its Insee code (34114) place it in the Hérault, historical department of Languedoc. Although the accuracy of its location is considered to be poor (note 5/10), its inscription reflects its heritage importance in the region.
