Origin and history
Mayac's old farmhouse, located in Uzès in the Gard, is a historical monument dating back to the late 15th century. This farmhouse is distinguished by its structure in three building bodies organized around a courtyard, closed by a porch. Among the most remarkable elements of this period are the crows with triple ressalts of the latrines located on the west side, as well as two palalier doors adorned with arches in a brace, integrated into a screw staircase on the first floor. These architectural details testify to a careful construction, characteristic of the late Middle Ages in the region.
Over the centuries, the mas has undergone several significant work campaigns. In the middle of the 17th century, and then in the 18th century, changes mainly concerned interior design. However, it was in the 19th century that the building underwent more marked transformations, partially redefining its appearance and layout. These successive interventions reflect the evolution of architectural needs and tastes, while preserving traces of earlier eras.
Mayac's old farmhouse was recognized for its heritage value, with official protection granted in 2014. The facades, roofs, as well as the entire park — including its fence wall and caves — were listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 15 May 2014. This protection underscores the importance of keeping both medieval elements and later additions, providing a complete testimony of local architectural history.
The location of the mas, although documented, remains approximate according to available sources, with an accuracy assessed as "a priori satisfactory". Located in the commune of Uzès, code Insee 30334, this monument is part of the historical landscape of the Gard, in the Occitanie region, and illustrates the diversity of the rural and seigneurial heritage of this geographical area.
