Mausoleum (Box BL 50): entry by order of 20 November 1995
Origin and history
The Mausoleum de la Tourrache is a historic monument located in the town of Fréjus, in the department of Var, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It is located in the enclosure of the C.E.S. (Collège d'Enseignement Secondary) of the Tourrache, at the precise address of the rue de la Tourrache. This monument was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by an order dated 20 November 1995, under the cadastral reference BL 50.
Today it belongs to the municipality of Fréjus, which manages and preserves it. The location of the mausoleum, although documented, is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10 depending on available sources). This type of monument, often linked to a commemorative or funeral function, reflects the cultural and social practices of the region at a given time.
In south-eastern France, especially in the Var, mausoleums and similar buildings show the importance attached to the memory of the deceased or to prominent local figures, although specific details of this mausoleum are not explicitly mentioned in available sources.
