Origin and history
The Menhir de Botudo is a megalithic monument located in the commune of Vieux-Bourg in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany. Dated from Neolithic, it is distinguished by its fusiform shape and its imposing dimensions: 4.55 meters high, 2.60 meters wide and 2 meters thick. Composed of large grain granite, it illustrates the techniques of size and erection controlled by the prehistoric societies of the region.
The menhir was registered as historical monuments by order of 22 September 1969, thus recognizing its heritage and archaeological value. This official protection underlines its importance in the study of funeral, ritual or territorial practices of neolithic populations in Brittany. Available sources, including bibliographical references such as Loïc Langouët (2005), confirm its integration into the network of megalithic sites in Côtes-d'Armor.
The location of the menhir, although documented (GPS coordinates and approximate address: 22800 Le Vieux-Bourg), remains subject to an accuracy considered "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10). No information is provided on its current accessibility or contemporary use, such as sightseeing or related services. Data are mainly from Wikipedia, Monumentum and the Merimée archives, without reference to recent studies or site-specific archaeological excavations.
