Origin and history
The Menhir de la Pierre Aiguë de La Saulsotte is a block of sandstone of square cross section, 1.90 m high for 1.50 m wide. Its sharp shape seems to result from a break. Located in the Aube department, in the Greater East region, it demonstrates local megalithic activity during Neolithic. In the vicinity, two dolmens once existed, now disappeared.
The monument was listed as historical monuments by order of 14 May 1993. This official protection underscores its heritage and archaeological importance. The menhir is located precisely at 2 Ruelle Gathinos, in the municipality of La Saulsotte, in a rural environment characteristic of the Aube.
Megaliths such as the Aiguë Stone were often associated with funeral or ritual practices during Neolithic. In this region, they sometimes marked territories or gathering places for sedentary farming communities. Their presence reflects the social and spiritual organization of the people of the time, although their exact uses remain partially hypothetical for this specific site.
