Origin and history

The Men-Milene-de-Pourhos Menhir, located in Saint-Philibert, Morbihan, is an emblematic vestige of the Neolithic period. This megalithic monument, typical of Brittany, illustrates the cultural and religious practices of the prehistoric societies of the region. Its erection dates back to a time when local communities organized their territory around symbolic and funeral landmarks.

Ranked a Historical Monument by order of 20 April 1927, this menhir bears the name Men-Milene-de-Pourhos and is referenced under Cadastre D 478. Its location, although documented (GPS coordinates and approximate address: 5017 Le Magouero), remains fair (note 5/10). The site does not have detailed information on its accessibility or contemporary uses (visits, services).

The Breton region, rich in megaliths, is home to many menhirs and dolmens dated to the Neolithic. These monuments, often linked to territorial rites or markings, reflect a complex social organization. In Saint-Philibert, as elsewhere in Brittany, these erected stones probably served as landmarks or assembly places for the agricultural and sedentary populations of the time.
