Origin and history

The menhir du Petit Vauridel is a megalithic monument located at the place called Le Pré, on the commune of Complaintl, in the department of Côtes-d'Armor (Bretagne region). Dated from Neolithic, it is distinguished by its rounded shape and its imposing dimensions for a menhir of this region: 1.55 m high, 1.55 m wide and 1 m thick. Unlike most local megaliths, it consists of granite, a rock absent from the immediate basement, raising questions about its origin and transport.

The Menhir was officially recognized for its heritage value and classified as historic monuments by ministerial decree of 20 November 1963. This protection demonstrates its archaeological importance in the study of the funeral and symbolic practices of Neolithic in Brittany. The site is referenced in heritage inventories under the code INSEE 22171, attached to the commune of Complaintl and the borough of Saint-Brieuc.

From a geographical point of view, its location is estimated with poor accuracy (level 5/10 depending on the sources), and its approximate address is 22 Le Petit Vauridel, 22940 Complaint. Menhir is cited in specialized works, such as Les megalithes de l'arrondissement de Saint-Brieuc (Loïc Langouët, 2005), which analyses it in the wider context of the megalithic sites of the Côtes-d'Armor. No information is available on its current accessibility or tourist use.
