Origin and history

Menhir du Léry is a megalithic monument located in the municipality of Erdeven, Morbihan, Brittany. Built in Neolithic, it is located in a pine forest northwest of the hamlet of Léry. This menhir, in orthognesis, is 2.3 meters high. It is one of many testimonies of human activity and cultural practices of this period in Brittany, where megaliths often served as territorial, religious or funeral markers.

The Menhir du Léry was listed as historic monuments on 24 July 2023, recognizing its heritage value. Since 2025, it has been part of the site of the megaliths of Carnac and the banks of Morbihan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ranking underlines the international importance of these remains, which illustrate the technical skills and social organization of the Neolithic communities in the region.

The monument is protected within a radius of 10 meters around its base, including the surrounding ground. This measure aims to preserve its integrity and archaeological context. The menhir and its right of way appear in the cadastre of the town of Erdeven, section ZE No 56, attesting its anchoring in the local landscape and its present heritage management.
