Origin and history

The covered market of Beaumont-du-Périgord occupies a central place in the town, inheriting a house with a roof rebuilt in the 17th or 18th centuries. Architectural traces, like departures from vaulting behind a curved arch, testify to this ancient period. The building was destroyed by fire, probably in the 19th century, partially erasing its early history.

The current reconstruction dates from the 20th century, with a report of receipt of the works signed on 28 April 1925 by architect Prodottier. This document marks the transformation of the site into a covered market, an essential place for local exchanges. The facade on the square and its roof, with its characteristic angles, have been protected since 1952, highlighting their heritage value.

Owned by the commune, this covered market embodies the evolution of public spaces in Périgord, moving from a medieval house to a place dedicated to commerce and collective life. Its architecture thus combines ancient remains with a modern structure, reflecting the changing needs of the local population.
